Tip of the Week:
Develop a good relationship with 5 - 7 recruiters.
They have a large network within your region, and know where most of the jobs are. If you can build a good relationship with at least 5 search consultants who specialise in your industry or area of expertise, your job search will be significantly shorter.
Recruiters, Headhunters and Search Consultants will make your job search easier....so don't give up when they don't return your call, or acknowledge your email.... keep on following up until you get a response.

How to Build Rapport with the Recruiter / Hiring Manager / Search Consultant
When you think you are reasonably suited to the position, we suggest you contact the advertiser (employer or recruitment consultant) to find out more.
It is a better use of both your time and the recruiters or hiring managers to clarify whether you should apply or not, rather than randomly applying for roles that you are either not suited to or would not really accept.
Phoning the contact person listed in the ad serves two purposes: first, it enables you to gain more specific information about the organisation and the role; second, it will allow the person managing the recruitment process to become familiar with your name and voice, which may make your resume stand out if you decide to apply.
Before you ring up to find out more, make sure that you know what you are going to say. It is a good idea to write down your list of questions and the reasons why you feel that you fit the requirements of the job.

- What sorts of tasks would a typical day in the role involve?
- I have been working with ….. as an ……
- My job included: Doing ….. Providing input to ……Handling client problems such as……..
- Before working with …. I spent …years as a …… where I did ….
While you are talking to the person taking the ad response, note down key words that they use when answering your questions and use them when you are explaining your skills, experience and interests.
