What would it be worth to You if the Jobs came to You?

Did you know that in these tough economic times,93% of jobs still never hit the job boards?

Most jobs are off the radar completely as only 7% of all jobs are advertised online or through the papers.   It’s alarming that so many candidates rely solely on these sources to secure their dream job.

So where are the remaining 93% of jobs?  60% of jobs are filled by existing staff recommending potential candidates and the remaining 33% get filled from networking and inner promotions.

Networking has never been easier, it can start with simply having a professional online profile and then a game plan to target the companies that you would love to work with.  The beauty of a professional networking site is that you can contact the CEO of your ideal organisation directly and save months of frustration in the process.

So if you are getting frustrated in your current job or feeling undervalued or not appreciated,  I wouldn’t let the doom and gloom stories (or a threatening recession), stop you from advancing in your career.  In fact, if you are seeking to advance in your career, it may be the perfect time to present your resume to a company and let them know how you can help them achieve results and overcome the challenges and the possible obstacles they will face.

Even in these tough economic times, there are so many jobs available, you just need to tap into the 93% of jobs that are hidden from view.

Some say it’s a full time job looking for a job, but it doesn’t have to be that time consuming.  There are new ways you can cut your job search time in half.  Leveraging LinkedIn and the world of social media to work to your advantage has ultimately reversed the job searching dynamics.

When done right, you can have your ideal employer connect up with you and offer you your dream job without the hassle of chasing recruiters or sending hundreds of job applications.

When it comes to using professional networking site LinkedIn, I offer the following checklist:

  1. Create a professional LinkedIn profile
  2. Join in on the discussions happening online
  3. Connect up with decision makers on LinkedIn
  4. Build relationships, meet them in person
  5. Develop a strong network

These 5 steps help people to achieve their career goals in as little as 30 days and it’s one strategy that taps into the 93% of jobs that most other candidates have no idea exist.
