Why the Most Qualified Person DOES NOT Always Get the Job

Qualifications and experience are only one aspect to what recruitment consultants and decision makers are looking for. Although your personality and values will decide if you fit in with the team, the chemistry between you and the interviewers will also influence your chances of success. Keeping all of these factors in perspective, you should also focus internally about how you can improve your job interview performance.

Here are 10 tips you might want to think about:
  1. Identify whether there is a contradiction between what's on your resume and what you have actually done in your career.
  2. Decide whether you are applying for the wrong type of positions or the wrong type of companies.
  3. Remember that every conversation you have with someone who works in your industry gives you an insight into problems and opportunities, that youcan possibly leverage upon.
  4. Take every interview opportunity to build up a better understanding of yourself and your strengths and weaknesses.  Focus on highlighting 4 of your most relevant strengths through your job interview answers.
  5. From every interview you should be able to take away additional skills that you can use the next time.
  6. Each interview is different, but there will be common threads that you can review to give you a better performance next time.
  7. Some of you answers will have been good.  You need to analyse the interview and identify the best ones for future use.
  8. Erase words such as 'rejection' from your vocabulary, today!
  9. If your feeling frustrated about your current work situation, be mindful, this is probably shining through in your answers and the way you talk about your current role.
  10. Acknowledge that if it didn't work out in the interview, it is unlikely that it would have worked out had you got the job.
There are some crucial steps you need to take to get more job offers in the job interview, I've boxed up all the best interview tactics on how to ace the interview in a package that I guarantee will accelerate your job search success.

Telephone Interviews
The telephone interview is just as important as the face to face job interview, as the telephone is done to initially screen candidates to form a shortlist.

To be invited for a job interview, you must have sounded confident in your skills and capabilities, so good on you for getting this far. The Recruiter would have asked a series of job interview questions similar to those that may be asked in the face to face interview.

To be successful in the telephone interview, we suggest you use these tips right now to get ready for the next step:
    1. Your voice mail message is professional and activated for callers to leave a detailed message, not just their number - believe it or not, this can cost you the job opportunity!
    2. Be ready at any moment to receive a phone call from a prospective employer. Concentrate all your effort to listening to the caller, and providing interesting answers, sound friendly and personable (people want to work with happy and positive people).
    3. Have pen and paper readily available to write down the caller's name and company details, then ensure you are in a quiet place, away from background noise which may distract either you or the recruiter.  Be prepared on how you will answer the job interview questions, in a way that will highlight your most relevant skills, and what you have to offer, that perhaps the next candidate won't possess.
