5 Steps to Making A Product 1. Define Your Brand Within the Market 2. Package Your Service for Maximum Profit 3. Establish Pre-eminence in your Market 4. Promote Your Expertise to Win More Clients More Easily 5. Develop the Psychology and Productivity for Success ? How to Productise Your Skills and Knowledge Welcome to the first lesson of the 'More Profit from Your Expertise' mini-course you requested.
In today's fast-changing world, your biggest asset is not what you have in the bank or whose details you have in your Rolodex.
Your success will depend on your own expertise and how well you take advantage of it.
Whether it's in your profession or business or in a passion or hobby, the chances are that you have knowledge and skills that other people are looking for.
Truth is that almost everyone is an expert in something!
The problem is that most people don't know how to take full advantage of their own expertise for maximum profit.
But these days, virtually anyone can easily enhance their reputation, attract more clients and make more money. -------------------------------------- Here are five keys to being able to make more profit from your expertise. 1: Positioning Yourself As SpecialThe biggest reason so many people fail to make the most of their expertise is that they don't value their own expertise highly enough. The first step is therefore getting very clear about who exactly is your market and why they should buy from you. When you can position yourself as an expert in that market, you'll easily be able to attract more clients and charge higher fees. 2: Establishing PreeminenceWhen you have identified your ideal market, you need to build a presence and reputation with them that encourages them to buy from you. In short you want to make sure they have heard of you before you try to sell them anything. One of the keys to doing that is sharing free information through email, blogs and articles. But you need to set up an effective system that helps you make contacts and build relationships rather than just giving things away. 3: Packaging Your Expertise for Maximum ProfitIn order to make more profit, you need to find a way to package your expertise so that others will pay for it without you having to be there in person. There are many ways to do this, including: - Printed books or eBooks
- Audio and video programs
- Membership sites or online courses
- Coaching programs
- Seminars and workshops
The secret is packaging your expertise in multiple ways to deliver maximum profit. For example, someone attending one of your seminars may buy a book or audio product and then later return for consultancy or coaching. 4: Promoting Your Expertise for Maximum SalesOnce you've found the right way to package your expertise, you need to identify the best ways to promote it. The fastest route to the largest possible market is using online marketing. This is a great way not only to attract customers to your website but also to build longer-term relationships through regular emails and newsletters. But in the rush to use online methods, many people miss out on the benefits of traditional approaches such as offline publicity and networking and don't make enough use of highly effective techniques such as direct mail and postcards. 5: Maximizing Your ProductivityWhatever business you are in, the fastest way to build your reputation and presence is by working together with other people. If you are an independent professional or entrepreneur working on your own or with a small team, the biggest mistake you can make is to try doing everything yourself. The more you can involve other people, for mutual benefit, the greater your chance of success. This can apply to developing your product, promoting it or sharing the workload through outsourcing. -------------------------------------
One of the best ways of making more profit from your expertise is developing your own information product.
Doing that is probably much easier - and more profitable - than you think. So why are so many people missing out on the benefits?
2nd Lesson Welcome to the second lesson in our series on 'More Profit from Your Expertise'. Today, we are looking at one of the biggest reasons why most people are failing to make the most of their expertise. The problem is that they haven't worked out what people will pay for. Investing a bit of time in this step makes the difference between a highly successful business and a disappointing outcome. The keys to this are: - Finding out what people want.
- Making sure they are willing to pay for it.
- Establishing a clear reason why they should buy it from you.
- The biggest reason people don't succeed with their business -
- apart from simply not trying - is that they try to 'educate the
- market' rather than give them what they already want.
One of the best ways to find out what people want is by using an Internet search engine like Google, even if you are not marketing primarily online.
Think about your area of expertise and then brainstorm a list of words that people would use to search for information about it in Google. The next step is to check some of these keywords and see how often they are searched. You can do that using this free online tool: If you find that not many people are searching on your keywords, or you can't identify anything that people would want to search for, you may need to rethink your offer. Are they willing to buy? You can also use this process to get an idea of whether people are actually spending money in this market. Look at the paid-for advertising that usually shows along the top or down the right of the search page. If there are several advertisers, this implies strong demand. Looking at the websites that come up in your search also tells you more about the market. Explaining Your Service Even when you know there is a market for your offer, you need to be able to explain it to people in a way that is appealing and makes clear why they should buy it from you.
So you need to think about what the outcome will be for them of buying your expertise. You need to consider the result they will get rather than the process of what you do. To do this, you need to be able to sum up in a few words why they need what you are offering, why it will be worth their time and money and why they should buy it from you. When you can do that, you will not only be able to attract many buyers, you'll also find a steady stream of clients approaching you willing to pay more for your other services. So, when you have a strong proposition, the key is to turn it into a product or service that you can sell. We'll look at that in the next lesson tomorrow. Welcome to the third lesson in our 'More Profit from Your Expertise' series. In this one, I'm going to share a little-known secret about using information products to boost your profits... What most people don't realize is that it's actually quite easy to turn your expertise into a product. Here are some ways of doing that: Write it: If you have the skills and the time, you can write your own book or program. This doesn't have to be time-consuming and, by following a simple system, it can be done very quickly. An hour a day over a couple of weeks or one free weekend is all you would need. Record it: For those who don't have the time or inclination to write, the information can be recorded. Some people find it much easier to talk than to write. So all you need to do is spend some time developing your outline then record your content using free software such as that at audacity.sourceforge.net . You can either use this as the product on its own or you can easily get it transcribed using a service such as idictate.com and, perhaps with a bit of editing, you have your own book. Create an event: The easiest way to create a product is by recording an existing event or perhaps arranging an event specifically for the purpose of creating your product. This could be either a live event or a teleseminar and a great advantage is that you can actually charge people to attend if you wish. As with recording yourself, you can then either transcribe this into a written product or sell it exactly as it was delivered. Buy it: In many cases, you will be able to buy content that has been previously created by someone else. This could either be in the form of existing material that you are then licensed to deliver. Or you could buy 'Private Label Rights' to someone else's material, where you can edit it and then sell it under your own name. Partner with others: You can also work with other businesses or individuals to create products together. This could, for example, be through joint seminars combining different expertise, a book where each of you contributes different sections or an audio where you interview an expert or have someone else interview you. Have it created: Another option is to develop a specification of what you want and then pay someone else to create it on your behalf. Good freelance writers are easily available - for example through sites like elance.com - who will quickly and at low cost turn your ideas into reality. So there are many ways in which you can quickly, cheaply and easily turn your expertise into a product. And when you have that, you have an ongoing source of income that can be creating profit wherever you are. Once you have your product, the key to maximum profit is promoting it effectively. That's what we'll look at in tomorrow's lesson. P.S. - For a step-by-step system for turning your expertise into a steady stream of income, visit ProductizeYou.com

5 Most Effective Online Continuity Program Models Here are the 5 most effective online continuity program models to consider for your online business: 1. Retainer 2. Subscription Membership 3. Fixed-term membership 4. Club or Inner Circle or VIP Program 5. Association Continuity programs are the "new" online business model that has recently escalated in popularity. No longer is it good enough to simply sell information products for a one-time sale or sell your services online. Instead, online business owners need to seriously think about changing their business model to include the concept of recurring revenue. This passive revenue model brings in regular recurring income on a weekly or monthly basis from the same customers. While there is still some work required to continue to market these programs, overall you will find it much more profitable to sell to one customer over and over again rather than having to go and find new customers repeatedly for a one-time information product sale. The Subscription Website Business Model The subscription website business is now a massive multi-million pound industry. And it is growing at a phenomenal rate. Over the next few years the number of Subscription based Websites is likely to increase dramatically, as more and more people enter this exciting new marketplace. In order to ensure YOU are one of those who benefits from this exciting new phenomenon, you first need to understand exactly what a Subscription Website is, and why this marketplace has evolved.
The Main Types of Subscription Website First of all, you should realise that the industry actually comprises of two main kinds of Subscription Website: - The ?Content based? Subscription Website,
- And the ?Service based? Subscription Website.
The main difference between the two is, a content based Subscription site mainly provides ?Information? and ?Resources? about a particular Topic/Subject area. Whereas a ?Service based? Subscription site provides access to a ?software tool? or other utility, which runs ?live? online, but can only usually be accessed via a password protected control panel. What exactly is a Subscription Website? It would probably be useful to define what a ?Content based? Subscription Website actually is. This is rather difficult to do however, since different people have slightly different ideas about what a Subscription Website is. But in essence, a Subscription Website (also known as a ?Paid Membership Site? or ?Member Site?) is a special kind of website which has all of its information ?hidden? from view within a Password Protected area. In order to access the ?private? member?s area, people have to pay a monthly, quarterly or annually recurring ?subscription? fee to become a member of the site. If you like, it?s rather like an Online Newsletter and Private Club, which only paying members can access.
A Subscription Based ?Membership? Site provides specific kinds of information on a particular Topic/Subject of interest to its members, and allows them to communicate with one another, share information, and generally have a great time in the company of like minded others. These are three main kinds of Content based Subscription website: - Some are very much like an online Newsletter/Ezine. With this type of site, the owner produces a page or more of ?Information? every week or month, and sends an email to their subscribers to direct them to a page on their website where they can see the latest ?issue?. (The subscriber can also usually access all ?back issues? from within the private site too.)
- Other Subscription sites are structured to look more like the traditional ?free to view? Content based website, where all the information is contained within lots of different ?sections? on the site. New ?articles?, and other information is added at regular intervals into the different ?sections?, and all subscribers can view any of the content, anywhere in the site, once they?ve paid their subscription fee.
- The last main type of Subscription site is more of a ?Downloadable Resource Library?, where the site owner provides their subscribers with access to Information, Resources or Digital ?Tools? they can download and use.
So, you can see that there are actually a number of different types of Subscription Websites. But, whichever type of Subscription Site a site owner uses, the end result is much the same. Their customers pay a subscription fee to access their site?s content and resources, and must continue to pay to continue using the site. How a Continuity Program Works Monthly Instalments (Typically $47 to $97) Many companies have been offering continuity programs for years. Proactive does it with face cleanser. Leeza Gibbons does it with Sheer Cover makeup. Doubleday does it with books. Columbia House does it with DVDs. Each of these companies offers an option in which subscribers pay a set fee each month and receive something new in return (books, DVDs, etc.). I've belonged to all of these continuity programs at some point in my life, and chances are, you have, as well. How can you incorporate this recurring revenue model into your business? Here are the 5 most effective online continuity program models to consider for your online business: 1. Retainer. Attorneys and accountants have done this for years -- their clients go on a regular retainer and the client can contact the attorney/accountant whenever needed as defined by the parameters of the retainer. Consultants, coaches, and virtual assistants offer this option, as well, as a way of providing services over an extended period of time. While having this in place makes for less client turnover, this model is the most time-intensive model of all of these models, as the model requires trading time for dollars. Most retainers offer x number of hours of work or x projects to be completed in return for a set monetary amount. 2. Subscription Membership. In this model, you are providing new content regularly to your members via a membership web site. Members log in and access new articles, audio, checklists, ebooks, discussion forum posts, etc. This is a content-driven model, as you need to continue to provide new content for your returning members as well as to attract new members. The upside of this model is that many members retain their membership for a year or longer, especially if offered the option of a reduced annual membership fee. 3. Fixed-term membership. In this model, you are providing new content on a weekly basis to your members for a fixed period of time. While initially time-intensive to set up, this model runs fairly seamlessly once all of your program modules are written. As long as your topic isn't one that needs continual updating, you can create this once and resell this again and again. However, unlike the other models, you keep your members only for a limited time (3 months, 6 months, 12 months) and then need to boost your marketing to continually replace members for this program. 4. Club or Inner Circle or VIP Program. This is a model that coaches, consultants, and speakers often use and may be marketed as a group coaching program. Typically the participant gets access to the program leader or an expert via a teleclass, and a printed teleclass transcript and CD are mailed to the participant each month. The program leader may also include open Q&A/coaching sessions, sporadic 1:1 coaching mini-sessions, and access to various resources and contacts to further help the participants. As long as members feel they are receiving value, they'll generally remain a participant in this type of program. 5. Association. Becoming the founder or president of a national or international association offers the kind of leverage not found in any other model. Because associations connote expertise, being the leader of an association automatically makes you the expert in a particular area. Reporters and writers often look to leaders of associations to comment on trends in an industry, which will result in much media attention for your business. Membership benefits and membership packages are the key offerings here, whether that's a monthly teleclass, access to specific downloadable content, networking opportunities, direct mail membership welcome packets, etc. This model is generally the least time-intensive, as 80% of your members will receive their membership package and not be heard from again until it's dues renewal time. Why continue to trade time for dollars? Take a look at these continuity program models and see which one(s) make sense for your online business. If you pick the right target market at the right time, one of these models may become your full-time business.
